What to Expect at One of Our Classes
It’s important to us that each and every one of our children, parents and carers is made to feel welcome from the get go! Your Story Rangers class leader will make sure you have all the relevant information you need prior to your first class and will be at the door to welcome you and your little one on the day.
As everyone arrives, children are welcome to explore our themed activity stations and play areas. From small world set ups, to sensory trays, numeracy activities, playdough, puzzles, puppets, our cosy reading teepee and so much more, your little one is guaranteed to find something to pique their interest! As experienced and qualified teachers, we put a great deal of thought and planning into our activity stations to ensure that they are developmentally appropriate and heaps of fun too.
Once everyone has settled, it’s time to head to our circle time area where we invite the children to sit on a leaf mat with their parent/carer. We are passionate about the importance of giving children a positive experience of books and stories from a young age! Our fun and interactive story and circle time section aims to do just this. Far from being expected to sit still and listen passively, your little ones will play an active role in helping to bring the story to life! We use simple, age-appropriate drama, music and movement and props and puppets throughout this 15-20 minute section of the class. Our aim is to ignite your child’s imagination and fully immerse them in a magical storytelling world!

After the circle and story time, children have the opportunity to complete a high-quality craft activity linked to the story! They are also free to continue exploring our themed play areas and activity stations, or to tell their own story (which we scribe for them) during this time. The key is always choice! For some children, the craft is the highlight of the session, some are happier lost in our tuff trays and then others can’t wait to tell their story so it can be shared at the end. This is really nice relaxed and sociable section of the session, where our Story Rangers grown ups are able to chat and make new friends as much as the children.
We come back to the circle one last time at the end of the session and always sing a nursery rhyme or action song (linked to the story!) We quickly share and celebrate any scribed stories the children have shared and finish with our goodbye rhyme.
